The Mexican bromeliad weevil, Metamasius callizona, first became established in Florida in the late 1980's in Broward County and has since moved to an additional 16 counties. It has been found in the following places in Florida:

Miami-Dade County: May 1991: Castellow Hammock, Goulds The weevil has not been found in Castellow Hammock or other parts of Miami-Dade County since before Hurricane Andrew.
